The modern talking or spirit board first came to popularity in the late 19th century as a communication device employed by mediums to talk with the dead. Although, the concept itself dates back to 12th century China and the Song Dynasty. Known as Fiji or Planchette Writing and a central practice of the Quanzhen School. However, the layout of today's talking board owes a great deal to Elijah Bond and William Fuld.
